Philip Mason, CFBS,MBA,WFAA is a CFO by trade with a unique blend of experience in small, medium and large businesses. He has over 30 years of experience with multigenerational family businesses. His family business CFO experience began in 1989 following a successful five-year career in the CFO organization of AT&T. He is former EVP & CFO of Allied Steel in Newark, NJ and CFO & COO of Martec International in Elizabeth, NJ.
His consulting career was launched in 2004 with the birth of 3-D Excellence LLC, a boutique CFO advisory practice with a mission of helping organizations achieve their full potential through the relentless pursuit of financial, operational and organizational excellence. This venture enabled him to save his marriage, be more engaged with his twins’ childhood years while pursuing his professional passion of helping business owners. During this time he was honored and privileged to serve many multigenerational family businesses including but not limited to both former employers, Mrs. T’s Pierogies as well as non-profit organizations like Meals on Wheels and the Army & Air Force Exchange Service where he served as a Financial Subject Matter Expert with his consulting mentor John R. Gammino, President of American Telemanagement Solutions.
In 2012, he took the next step in his career by entering the financial services industry. He recognized that the business was just one of his business owner client’s assets and their success in business created increased complexity in the personal financial world. Just like their business, they needed independent advice and services support in the family, business and ownership domains of their life. They needed integrated planning that reduces risk, builds wealth and improves tax efficiency. Over the next several years, he became fully licensed in insurance, financial planning and investments so he could serve in a fiduciary capacity and provide fee-based independent advice. And that was the birth of his second entrepreneurial venture 3D Integration where he passionately served as Personal/Family CFO to successful business owners.
When prospective clients heard his background and business CFO experience, they consistently asked if he could take a look at the business. “We look at everything…it is nothing short of a financial colonoscopy” to which clients chuckle. 3-D Excellence was a compliance approved OBA since the beginning, to enable Phil to provide the complete set of services needed by successful middle market business owners.
After 20 years of successful client service and strategic execution, 3-D Excellence LLC has merged with TransitionNext Advisors. This moment marks more than a business combination—it represents a liminal event for the Co-Founders of Liminal Partners, as we bring together the strengths of two legacy firms to create something distinctly new.
